Every direct seller and solopreneur needs a blog. You may have a great brand, an amazing product and a wonderful opportunity, but without a blog, it’s virtually impossible to stand out from the crowd of other consultants and establish yourself as THE consultant. Here are seven reasons you should start blogging for direct sales.
Blogging for direct sales: Be at the top of the Social Media Pyramid
Think about this: every single consultant in your company has a replicated website and most have a Facebook page. How do you stand out from the competition- the other consultants in your brand and competing brands that sell similar products? By moving up the Social Media Pyramid, where there is less competition. Having a blog is at the top of the pyramid because it’s the least crowded space. It’s also the most work to do well, but it will help you stand out from the pack. (And Brenda Ster’s Social Media Pyramid is a lot more fun than Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs or the FDA’s Food Pyramid).
Blogging for direct sales makes you an expert in your field
I have learned more about Willing Beauty since I started blogging than I did the years before I blogged. Why? Because I want to make sure what I’m writing about it accurate and true. By teaching, we learn. We commit to gaining knowledge so that we can share that knowledge with others.
Blogging for direct sales provides value
You can only say so much in a Facebook post. Too much content and you lose your readers. With a blog, you are able to focus on answering your customers’ questions, maybe even questions they don’t know they have. And that, my friends, is providing value for your peeps. You are giving them something- free of charge- just because you’re awesome like that.
Blogging for direct sales: Expand your reach!
I’ve had people from New York and Ohio reach out to me and join my team. How did they find this pink-haired Florida girl? My blog. They live thousands of miles away from me, but Google doesn’t care. Google only cares about returning an answer to their questions. I had created a blog post on the information they were searching for, so Google, being the kind acquaintance-maker it is, sent them to me. (Thanks, Google!) When you write about trending topics in your brand (new products, ingredients, tutorials on how to use your product) and use good SEO, your blog can reach so many more people that you ever could using any other marketing tool.
Blogging for direct sales gives you a voice
Your blog is 100% you! It’s not a corporate site, it’s your personal space on the internet, with your voice. Your blog is a place to showcase your content, through blog posts and original graphics. It’s also the central hub for all things you- with links to your Facebook page, Instagram and Pinterest account.
Blogging for direct sales: Create relationships
Your blog gives your readers a chance to learn know you better, to learn more about you, without necessarily ever even meeting you. They may find you through a Google search, but if you have a good voice and interesting content, they will stick around and may connect through your other channels. We do business with people we Know, Like and Trust. Having a blog is another channel you to meet people (KNOW), be charming (LIKE) and provide answers and assistance (TRUST).
Blogging for direct sales: Your content lasts forever!
Have you ever Googled something and, among the results you get back is something that was written a long time ago? We all have! Because the internet doesn’t forget. Once you’ve published the post, it’s there for the world to see and for Google to find. Creating and publishing content that has a long shelf life means you’ll enjoy the rewards (traffic) for a long time. Try finding something you posted on Facebook three weeks ago? Or worse, try finding something someone else posted on Facebook three weeks ago! So much content has been added in the last three weeks, you can scroll, scroll, scroll and never find that awesome singing and dancing flamingo video. (Just me? Never mind!)
But, I don’t know where to start
I knew I wanted a blog, but I didn’t want to create something that looked liked a middle school Home Ec project gone wrong. I’m not a technical person at all, so the thought of creating a blog scared me, until I found Sassy Suite’s Blogging Boot Camp. It’s a ten-week, self-paced program offered four times per year. And it’s pretty awesome. They do the techy (read: boring) stuff for you and guide you through everything else. And I do mean guide- you are responsible for picking out the theme, widgets, menus, creating graphics- all that jazz. But, they guide you through it. You’re not left alone, mumbling incoherently at your computer screen in the middle of the night asking “Why, for the love of all that is holy, will this widget not load properly?”
Registration for Sassy Suite Blogging Boot Camp 5 is open now. I had a great experience with it and I’ll be happy to tell you all about it! Shoot me a message or connect with me on Facebook.
